As the year comes to a close, it is beneficial to reflect on all that we are thankful for. The holidays bring everyone together and get us in the giving spirit. Let’s use some of that spirit to benefit those around us! Many organizations in Greater Hartford and beyond are hosting ways for you to give back to kids, cats, and more this year.
Connecticut Children’s Medical Center (CCMC) is holding their Fifth Annual PJ Day on December 9, 2016. Students and businesses across Connecticut will be wearing their pajamas all day to support the patients fighting cancer and serious illness! Suggest that your school or business hold a PJ day to show your support for these kids. For a minimum $1 donation, you can relax all day in your pajamas! Visit their website to register your school or workplace before December 9!
Did you know that The Children’s Museum provides you opportunities to sponsor an animal? There are several tax deductible sponsorship packages available on their website that allow sponsors to learn more about the animal you choose, and even meet him or her! This makes a great gift for any animal lover! Sponsoring an animal is also a great teachable moment for your child. Together, you can visit the museum and track the progress of the animal you’ve chosen together.
How about a donation that you or a loved one can enjoy every month in 2017? The 2017 Fidelco calendar is perfect! For $15.00, you can gaze at the adorable puppies filling the year-long wall calendar. Proceeds from the calendar benefit Fidelco in their mission to place trained guide dogs (at no cost to the client) with the visually impaired.
A staggering 137,000 people in Hartford and Tolland counties are in need of food every day. We can change that. Hoffman Honda and the Connecticut Honda Dealers have partnered with Foodshare and the Connecticut Food Bank for the Second Annual Honda Against Hunger Food and Fund Drive. Now through December 12, drop your nonperishable food donations at the following locations:
Hoffman Honda, 40 Albany Turnpike on the Avon/Canton line (ask for Terry Schnurr)
Hoffman Ford Lincoln, 600 Connecticut Blvd, East Hartford (ask for the Marketing Department)
Hoffman BMW of Watertown, 699 Straits Tpk, Watertown (speak to receptionist)
Hoffman Audi of New London, 490 Broad Street, New London (ask for Joe Thomas)
Monetary donations can also be made online here.
HYPE, an initiative of MetroHartford Alliance, is holding their annual Tons of Toys toy drive on December 7th. Stop by Marquee Events & Catering, 960 Main Street, Hartford with a toy valued around $20 and help bring a smile to the face of a local child this holiday season. All toys will be donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford.
Cat lovers, unite! Petcare Veterinary Services in West Hartford provide much needed care for a colony of feral cats year round. Their feral cats are spayed and neutered, and rely on Petcare for food all winter long. Our partners at Our Companions are holding a cat food drive the whole month of December. Wet and dry cat food can be dropped off at Petcare, 64 Raymond Rd, West Hartford.
Kids who have warm winter clothing are more likely to attend school. Keeping children in school and getting them educated is critical to their future success, as well as the success of the community. Help United Way keep kids learning by holding a clothing drive between now and December 15. Register your drive here to ensure that they receive all your collected coats, hats, and mittens!
